The British Type "D" Survival Knife.

According to Ron Flook (B&CMK), this pattern knife came in to service with the British Army in the late 1950's or early 1960's and is still in service. The knife was originally made by Wilkinson Sword and has since been made by several other makers. I suspect this one was made by Joseph Rodgers because of the JR mark.

These knives are currently in the Escape/Survival kit of the RAAF F18 Hornets.

They have previously had limited issue to some Australian Army units. The earliest issue that I am aware of was in the late 1980's or early 1990's. They were issued on a limited scale to Armoured units. I have no information on the scale of issue.

They are a beast of a knife.

Weight of knife: 606 grammes
Overall Length: 311mm
Blade Length: 181mm
Blade thickness: 6.5mm

Hopefully someone can provide me with further information on their issue.
