    New Guy From America

    Hey all,

I have been playing around with hand forging for some time now. I have always made little projects like cabinet handles, letter openers, and door knockers.

Whenever I talk about my hobby, the first thing someones asks me is: "do you make knives"? They always seem so disappointed when I tell them no...

So I figure it's time to give the people what they want! I'm joining these forums to hopefully soak up the knowledge and expertise of those more skilled than me.

Some of you may be wondering why an american is joining a forum about Australian knife making, the answer is simple: I get tired of Reddit and Facebook, and I always enjoy browsing smaller forums like this one.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

    Smile Welcome

    G'day Mate!

Nice to have you join us "Down Under"

There are lots of very knowledgeable and friendly members here who will be able to give you a hand and help you on your way to what will become your new obsession. I am sure that you are well on the way with your blacksmithing knowledge already gained.

The only problem you are likely to have is getting used to Aussie phrases and humour!

Please show us your work as you go along. In fact some photo's of your work so far would be of interest. There is plenty of room in the Gallery.

Hey, why don't you plan a holiday here when one of our great knife shows are on. You just missed Sydney!

A lovely American gentleman recently started up an American-style BBQ joint in one of the local food courts in Fremantle - best thing ever!

I would LOVE to visit Australia sometime in the future. Just out of curiosity, how much does an American-style BBQ place differ from an Australian one?

    G’day there KF12,

There’s been a huge American BBQ movement here in Aus over the past few years, with a big upswing in th number of restaurants and mobile event caterers doing US style low-n-slow. As much as we Aussies lay claim to BBQ as an integral part of our culture and national identity, what we call a BBQ the rest of the world would call a Grill (gas or charcoal).

To answer your question, we don’t really have many Aussie BBQ restaurants (in my experience) as the Aussie BBQ is done at home among mates, or at a park or beach on public facilities or mobile setups.

I guarantee you’d enjoy the experience though.

    Cheers and welcome to ABF
