heavy oil for high carbon steel

I need a recommendation for my Von Tempsky and Pig Sticker (both in 15N20), a heavy oil preservative (along the lines of Cosmoline, just not as problematic in its removal) that I don't have to constantly apply (like the light machine oil I am presently using), one that will stick and stay put.

    Any thoughts?

like it, but like $40 (including postage from America) a small container, wouldn't mind an Aussie supplier that is a lot more affordable.

If you're happy to go supermarket way I'd use coconut oil over lard, it won't go rancid like lard, especially in Qld weather conditions. And will smell HEAPS better!

the next step for a homemade concoction would be to mix beeswax, coconut oil and lanolin (you can find proportions online) for a kinda soft/spreadable solution to treat steel & leather
