Try the small listerine flask....the larger ones defeat the purpose of the original bottle the method came in ...plus it's a perfect lightweight size to carry in a day or overnight pack ...or even 2 for a longer outing

Add some water to the metho to make it burn yellow.

will this also reduce the temp the metho burns at? (water injection in petrol engines, stops them from pinging and in extreme circumstances detonating, does this and is why I ask)

If it does I have not noticed it.
I never time the boiling of water when I am in the bush using my metho stove
All I know is my coffee is hot and I am happy.

It shouldn't reduce the temp by enough to notice, the heat waste on most stoves is such that hotter burns don't equate to faster boil times as the thermal transfer rate is limited. The additional effect of the water is reducing the soot that metho can leave on the pot.

A few people I know, still use alcohol stove's on their live aboard yachts for every day cooking.
Big advantage is that fuel is available pretty much everywhere in the world.
Also, they can be extinguished with water if necessary.
As I always have spray bottles in galley for cleaning (detergent, vinegar, plain water) it would be a bonus.
I do use LPG though as it is convenient, but extremely explosive.
