some great tips everyone. I think i'll give some beeswax and lanolin a go, I've got some old boots that are nearly at the end of their life, might be some time for experimenting! I have a feeling there is lanolin available from most chemists. Might get the missus electric frypan down the shed and cook some mixes up haha

That is what i would be doing if you have a heap of bees wax, experiment. Let me know how you go, i'm very interested. In a earlier post i mentioned Joseph Lyddy Leathe panne, i used to work in the horse industry and cleaning out stables destroys boots[ uric acid ] in the straw and sawdust. I have been using this on my R M Williams and they are over 20 years old. Won't waterproof but repels moisture and protects the leather especially the seams. I can recommend it for boots. Get it at any good equine store. Good Luck.

    Not the frypan, hehe
If doing small amounts hair dryer works good to keep it warm, you can also warm the leather in cold weather with it.
