A goodly sized hunter I finished yesterday, getting it ready for The Adelaide Knife Show. Blade is stonewashed M390 at exactly RC=60 (personally watched the test, yep, I'm aware of the prev discussions about this on the Forum), textured spine and ricasso. Handle is my very last piece of Malagasy rosewood. I've started making the sheath and hopefully will finish it tomorrow after a few more rubs of various coloured dyes today. I made the bead from a 7mmRemMag casing.

I'm really liking the handle on this 1, that rosewood has a great texture to it.
    Thanks for sharing.

Cheers and I agree, also it's easy to work, really stable and colour fast as well. Unfortunately it's now listed by CITIES so that's all she wrote. You can get roughly the same look from Dead Finish if you get lucky with a bit that has black stripes.

The handle is a bit of gidgee I've had lying around the shop for a decade or so looking for a home. It does look a bit like koa, though darker and of course much harder.

To answer a question put to me, the gidgee in the small fixed knife came from a bulldozed pile of timber in a farm fire break in Victoria, well before it was as appreciated as it is now. I didn't know squat about wood, I just got lucky.

getting things ready for the upcoming Adelaide Knife Show. A full sized cooks in RWL34 with hard wearing Brazilian bloodwood on the tang. This is pretty finely ground and has a nicely sticky edge and a useful point. Spine is chipped. Blade length 19cm, overall is 33cm

a large meat knife / butchery knife for the kitchen, made from RWL34 with bocote handle, also has a small polished false edge (unsharpened). Green lanyard matches liners. For all those who like cutting thick steaks from a whole slab!
